The latest College Tutor & Trust Rep Open Session on 13th May gave us the opportunity to formally welcome our new Head of School Camilla Kingdon. Camilla, who is a consultant neonatologist at Evelina Children’s Hospital, has been a key figure in the School of Paediatrics since it was established in 2007, and has taken over this lead role from Andrew Long.
As ever the Open Session was an opportunity to hear from each of the 3 sector-based STC chairs Su Laurent, Simon Broughton and Bob Klaber, and this was followed by Laura Waddoups, who gave us an update on ARCPs. Within Laura’s talk was a reminder to trainees to ensure that they were finalising all of the their WPBAs and other ARCP requirements, and a request to College Tutors and trainers to encourage their consultant colleagues to sign up to ARCP panels which are taking place over the summer.
Tsitsi Chawatama gave us an update on the work of the Trust Reps, who continue to meet in great numbers on the morning of every ST1-5 STC meeting, and then we heard from Nick Hoque who presented his work on neonatal induction. The session finished with a presentation from Eleanor Perera and Mando Watson, from the curriculum delivery sub-group, who have been undertaking an extensive review of the learning needs of our trainees across London. Their work is producing a clear picture as to what educational and learning opportunities we should be delivering in the months and years ahead, so thajk you to the 100+ people who have contributed their views and ideas to this so far.
These Open Sessions will continue to run between 2.00pm and 3.30pm on the second Tuesday of every other month (July, Sept, Nov, Jan, March and May) in and around Senate House / Stewart House – all College Tutors, training leads, Trust Reps, Trainee Committee members and TPDs are very welcome. If there are specific items that you would like to see discussed in this setting, please do get in touch with Su, Simon or Bob the STC leads.
