The School of Paediatrics Simulation Programme will be running again this year. Much more information will be posted in the next few weeks – so please check this site for more information and look at the FAQs which can be accessed through the Curriculum link on the main website, and then looking at the Simulation pages.
We have funded this programme for you the trainees and you will be asked if you have completed the training on your ARCP paperwork next year!
The programme consists of the following:
Full Immersion days – this is one full day of training for ST1 and ST3 trainees and Paediatric nurses will take part in five high fidelity scenarios. This day will allow you to become familiar with the management of acute paediatric and neonatal emergencies, and will allow you to manage these cases and also think about the way teams work together in more acute situations.
Part-task / Communication training days – this full day is for ST3 trainees. The day is divided into two with one half of the day spent becoming more familiar with practical procedures used in Paediatrics ( the procedures included cover – airway management, intraosseous needle placement, chest drain placement) and the other half of the day is spent on communicating challenging news using actors role playing parents.
The trainining centres are divided by sector and so you should apply for a place on these training days in your sector. Dates will be available in the next few weeks – so please watch this site closely.
Please get in touch if you cannot get onto a course in your sector, then please let me know via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
I am sure you will enjoy these days as much as we do teaching them.
