Thank you to all of the College Tutors, Trust Reps and Trainee Committee members who contributed to such a vibrant North West London STC meeting on Tuesday – as a reminder, this meeting happens between 3.30pm and 5.00pm on the 2nd Tuesday of the month on the odd months (ie March, May, July etc) and is an opportunity for trainees and trainers to come together to help improve the quality of training in paediatrics in North West London.
We started the meeting by hearing about updates and innovations from the team at West Middlesex and also Hillingdon. We had a good discussion that reflected on the STCs first local departmental visit, that had taken place at Northwick Park at the end of February. Led by Saji Alexander, with support from Stephen Goldring and Raj Kainth this enabled the usual Local Faculty group meeting to be extended with the opportunity for discussions about training with a group of the consultants and a good number of the trainees who are currently placed there. There was a strong feeling from all involved that the opportunities for sharing of learning, for peer-review and for listening to any issues was very powerful. Plans are in place to visit each department in NWL over the next 12-18 months.
Miranda Lutkin (paediatric trainee on OOPE) gave an outline of one of her projects with HENWL, to look at strengthening rotas in NWL through developing a programme for Trust Grade doctors to help them move between posts in North West London, and we also heard from Affy Sepahzad about the Case Exchange plans in North West London.
As ever there is a huge amount going on in North West London, so do use this brilliant new website and the Facebook page to share ideas and opportuinities and to find things to get involved with.
