Thank you to everyone who attended the NCEL Training Programme Management Committee (ST1-5) Meeting last week. We had a record turnout of enthusiastic college tutors, trainee reps and training programme directors. There was a robust discussion around the ST4/5 application process with a unanimous call by trainees for more information about the process and the posts. An information evening has been proposed for February 2015 where we hope all trusts will be represented to provide information about the training they offer. Watch this space for more information.
Our trainee reps are busy gathering JIGs (job information guides) for each Trust. If you haven’t submitted yours, please forward it as soon as possible to the NCEL trainee reps, Roisin Begley or Chris Kelly. A call to College tutors to spur on your trainee reps to complete these “need to know” guides for your departments.
Local and sector training is going strong. A “Return to Work” Simulation course was recently held at Whipps Cross with excellent feedback and a very well received Academic afternoon for those returning to clinical work after time out in research was held in August. The aim is to run these courses on a biannual basis. Sector based teaching is running a bimonthly programme. The next date is 24th September focusing on paediatric oncology. These sessions are aimed at ST1-5 trainees and are organised by the trainee reps. The Neonatal Emergency Team Training Simulation Course organisers have confirmed 9 dates so far. Details will be uploaded to the calendar shortly. Please contact Dr Syed Mohinuddin at the Royal London Hospital for more details. There are also plans to run a ST1 neonatal life support training day in the sector in early September 2015. Some really fantastic training opportunities are already taking place with more on the way. We are always eager to hear of any teaching/ training opportunities available across the sector to add to the calendar. Do get in touch.
Next meeting is on 11th November at 3:30pm. Hope to see another fantastic turnout.
